Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program (EDIOP)

EDIOP focuses on helping individuals heal from Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), Other Specified Feeding Eating Disorder (OSFED), and Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

EDIOP Overview

Eating Disorder IOP (EDIOP) is an evidence-based program that is designed specifically for individuals struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring concerns not limited to anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, perfectionism, and self-esteem. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) simply means that rather than living at the treatment center, clients visit as many times as needed per week based on their individualized treatment plan.

How does EDIOP work?

After completing an intake process, clients will receive a treatment plan that includes nutrition services, group recommendations, and/or referrals if necessary.

Clients must be seeing a therapist weekly to be able to participate in the program. They will also need to visit a nutritionist or dietitian to receive a prescribed eating plan that they can bring to our mealtime support group.

Recovery from eating disorders varies from individual to individual, but we offer all of the following services:

  • Mealtime Support Therapy
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Radically-Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT)
  • Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT),
  • Family-Based Treatment (FBT)
  • Nutritional Therapy
  • Therapeutic Yoga
  • Interpersonal Therapy
  • Trauma-Informed Care

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the treatment?

Because treatment is individualized, there is no set timeline for treatment. However, there is a minimum of eight weeks for treatment in our EDIOP. Individual therapy is ongoing and will be determined based on the primary clinician’s clinical recommendation and the individual’s progress based on treatment goals.

How many hours per week is IOP?

Each week of EDIOP includes ten hours per week consisting of group therapy, mealtime support therapy, and individual therapy. Nine hours per week includes group therapy and mealtime support therapy spread over three days. Because we follow evidence-based approaches, our program requires a minimum of one hour per week of individual therapy, family-based therapy, or nutrition therapy as part of our EDIOP.

How do I know IOP is for me?

EDIOP is not for every individual. There are certain criteria for individuals to be considered for varying levels of care for eating disorder treatment. During the intake, each individual will be assessed based on symptoms, medical clearance, and clinical recommendations for level of care. If a higher level of care (partial hospitalization, residential, or inpatient) is necessary, a referral will be made. The structure of the IOP benefits the individual who is medically stable and wishes to maintain the normalcy of their life outside of treatment.

Reserve Your Spot Today!

Our program expects that through group therapy, nutrition therapy, and mealtime support therapy, you will have gained healthy coping skills and psychoeducation on nutrition and balanced eating, increased distress tolerance, emotion regulation, mindfulness, social connectedness, and decreased symptoms and behaviors of disordered eating. Each individual will leave our IOP with plans to move to a lower level of care continuing with either DBT or RO-DBT group weekly depending on their current track in treatment as well as individual therapy and nutrition therapy sessions to maintain goals toward recovery.
