Lauren Stegall received her Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. She also has a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreational Therapist with a minor in Psychology from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Licensed Recreational Therapist (LRT), and a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
Lauren has worked with all ages and backgrounds. Previously, Lauren has worked with aging adults who are now beginning to experience Alzheimer’s and/or dementia or have had the diagnosis for a while. Lauren has not only worked with the aging adult, but she has also worked with their adult children who are now experiencing this dramatic change with their parent. While in her Master’s program, Lauren was an intern at Alexander Youth Network working with children who experienced traumatic events in their lives. She worked in both the inpatient setting and outpatient school setting in Union County. Since her internship, she has worked with children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and their families by utilizing approaches to both make the child successful in their everyday functioning and to improve the overall family dynamic.
Through these experiences, Lauren’s style of therapy is to actively engage clients make to decisions in relation to their treatment, explore their struggles, and create new solutions towards improving their overall happiness. Lauren works with children ages 6 through adulthood using recreational therapy approaches, person-centered counseling, solution-focused brief therapy, humanistic approach, behavioral therapy, and cognitive therapy to address anxiety, depression, and behavioral concerns.
Lauren enjoying working with people of all ages and understands the importance of collaborating with others when directed by the client. When working with children, Lauren finds that when also working with the parents it helps to improve the overall family dynamic by providing support to all family members and identifying a solution(s) together.
When Lauren is not working, she can be found enjoying her time with her family (including their dog) preferably in the mountains anytime of the year.
