MSW, LCSW-A
Therapist

Christy graduated from the University of North Carolina Wilmington with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Social Work degree. Beginning in 1999, she studied yoga, meditation and mindfulness practices at Kripalu Yoga Center (the largest residential yoga center in the United States), Open Gate Sangha and The American Viniyoga Institute. In addition to long-term immersive meditation periods and in-depth study of the history and lineage of many types of yoga, Christy completed a 500 Hour Teacher Training with the American Viniyoga Institute, over a three-year course. Christy is a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist. For the past 15 years, she ran her own wellness business in Wilmington, North Carolina offering massage, yoga and meditation instruction in both clinical and recreational settings, including Lower Cape Fear Hospice, where she worked with the terminally ill, and the Wilmington Treatment center where she worked with those in early addiction recovery.

Christy’s approach to therapy addresses self-defeating patterns in thoughts, relationships and addictive habits, and emphasizes self-compassion and acceptance as a doorway to happiness. Sessions typically include some relaxation or body awareness techniques, in addition to more traditional talk therapy such as CBT, DBT, Person Centered and Strengths Based/Solution Focused approaches.

Christy addresses the body, mind and spirit of her clients so that all three pillars are functioning optimally. She is comfortable facilitating acceptance after grief, loss and change including: transitions in adolescence, empty nest, the mid-life search for meaning, divorce and death of a loved one. Christy has clinical experience with Eating Disorders, depression and anxiety and issues unique to the LGBTQ+ community and is an LGBTQ+ ally. Her ability to be with other’s struggles, listen deeply and work compassionately sets her apart.
