Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need counseling or therapy?

The decision to seek help may be difficult, and we understand. Anyone who wants to feel better could benefit from counseling, and only you can decide whether you are ready. If you are undecided whether counseling can improve your well-being, come visit us for an initial assessment. Since we have therapists trained to work with a variety of issues, our front office staff can help you feel comfortable in scheduling your first visit with the best therapist for your needs. After the initial assessment, the therapist will make recommendations, and you can decide whether to continue.

How often will I need to come to therapy?

The therapist who does your initial assessment will recommend a therapeutic schedule, but it is ultimately up to you. Many individuals find that they want to come more often at first, depending on the severity and urgency of their problems, then appointments can be spaced farther apart.

What if I don’t like the therapist with whom I am scheduled?

An important part of the therapeutic process is the relationship between client and therapist, so we want you to feel comfortable with yours. Although our staff is well trained and experienced, we also have different personalities and therapeutic styles. Our goal is for you to gain as much as possible from your experience with us, so please let us know if you would prefer a different therapist.

What if I see someone I know in the Southlake office?

We understand that can be uncomfortable, and it doesn’t happen often. However, remember it is a sign of strength to ask for help and work to improve your life. Just as you might see someone you know if you joined a gym to work on your physical well-being, you may also see someone in our office who, like you, is working on their emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being.

Are your services covered by insurance?

The Southlake Center offers services on a fee-for-service basis and its providers are on a variety of insurance panels to meet your needs. Our dedicated front office staff will work with your insurance company to negotiate the best option for you with regard to coverage and payment. The cost of services will differ depending on the needs of the individual. We will work with you to make an arrangement that best suits your financial needs. Please contact The Southlake Center if you have any questions with regard to your insurance company and its coverage of our services.

How do I know what level of care I need?

If you have decided to get help, we are here to assist you in your treatment needs. We recognize that making the decision to reach out is difficult and takes courage. With compassion and wisdom, we will connect with you and make it as easy as possible. Together we will decide if the Southlake Center is the right place for you and your journey to a healthy future. If not, we will make referrals and recommendations for more appropriate levels of care.

How do I get started?

Call our office at 704-896-7776 to set up an initial assessment for a comprehensive evaluation. This evaluation is one of the most important parts of the process as it helps to devise well-defined treatment goals and plans. The evaluation will take approximately 1-1.5 hours, and will include a therapeutic assessment as well as nutrition assessment (if applicable).
